It all started in 1964 in Ashby de la Zouche, a market town in Leicestershire when Tony Wren joined Round Table and the following week his wife Pat joined Ladies Circle. Back in the day, Pat could only join Ladies Circle if she was married to a Round Tabler – how times have changed thankfully.
After 6 years in Ashby de la Zouche Round Table and Ladies Circle, they arrived in Market Harborough in 1970 and immediately became a formidable driving force in the local Round Table Family.
Tony has been in the Chair of Market Harborough 41 Club twice but has been outdone by Pat who has not only been Chair of Market Harborough Tangent twice but also Chair of both Ashby de la Zouche and Market Harborough Ladies Circles.
Diamond Jubilee for Tony and Pat
Over the years they have been involved in everything going on in the Market Harborough Round Table Family - 60 years of twinning with Halle Round Table and 41 Club in Belgium; running a major fund raiser with Fanny and Jonnie Craddock; the Market Harborough Carnival and going to many Round Table and 41 Club conferences as you can see as Tony tries to hide his modesty at a Round Table National Conference.
But their main achievement has been making lifelong friendships over their 60 years in the Round Table Family.
And so, this year we come to the Diamond Jubilee of Tony and Pat being members of the Round Table Family - we think that makes them a unique couple but please let us know if you can match their achievement.
In recognition of his dedicated service to the Club, Chairman Astley Sharples presents Tony with an engraved tankard – unfortunately not filled.
