James Ivan Hopley - High Wycombe 41 Club

1925 - 2015

High Wycombe 41 Club regret to announce the recent Death of Jim after a long illness.

Having been evacuated during the War to Upton-on-Severn, Jim returned to Sutton Coalfield to complete his studies joining Sutton Coalfield Round Table in 1948 at the age of 23.

On completion he joined the GPO as a trainee manager and worked for them until taking a position with Honeywell in London. This meant a move to live in High Wycombe, and he joined Wycombe Round Table in 1963

His work with Honeywell was mainly connected to the Oil Industry on an International level which meant initially time overseas, but later mainly concerned with the development of the North Sea Oilfields.

Jim was a Founder Member of High Wycombe 41 Club, and was Chairman in 72/73 and 97/98. Also Treasurer for a number of years. In recognition of his support he was awarded the distinction of Life Membership.

Jim was a keen DIYer, had a great interest in history and in retirement still loved to travel. A quiet man with a great sense of humour, Jim was good company and always ready to help if needed.

He is survived by his Wife Sylvia - a keen Tangent member – and sons Julian, Peter, and Graham, plus 9 Grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed.
