Gerry Bindless - Clitheroe 41 Club

Gerry Bindless. R.I.P.

We are so sorry to have to report the death on the 6th December of Clitheroe 41 Club member Gerry Bindless.

Gerry was employed by Barclays Bank and served in the East Lancashire inspection team, during which time he was a member of Clitheroe Round Table. He then progressed into management at the Whitehaven branch and later he and

Lynda moved to Bradford where he was President of Bradford Blaize Rotary Club.

On retirement they moved back to the Ribble Valley - to the house they had

previously lived in many years earlier. He joined 41 Club and Rotary, joining many friends that he knew previously in Round Table.

Gerry effectively took over the running of our Wednesday walks after John Whitehead became too ill, and along with Bill Honeywell devised and organised most of our walks for a period of two or three years at least. In contrast to Bill's 'last-minute' approach, Gerry would carefully research and recce each walk and was always able to add some interesting information on the day.

Although he didn't take office in 41 Club he was the most diligent Rotary secretary for many years. Even in his last illness he still remained in office, even though he could not attend club meetings, and remained in control up to the last week of his life.

Our condolences are extended to Gerry’s wife, Lynda and all the family. He will be greatly missed.
