Peter Buckingham - Norwich Wensium & Yare 41 Club

We, at Norwich Wensium and Yare 41 Club, are very sad to announce the death, on the 7th October 2020 after a very long illness, of our dear friend Peter Buckingham.

He was set on joining the family shoe shop business and in preparation he took a couple of apprenticeships, including one at Clarkes in Somerset. In Norwich he took the business from strength to strength, expanding the number of retail outlets to eventually find himself at the helm of the largest chain of independent shoe retailers in the south of England.

Being a businessman in Norwich also brought a new and important opportunity for him and he became a hugely proud member of the No 1 Round Table. This introduced him to a new group of friends who would remain important to him for the next 40 years. Later he joined our 41 Club, where he was chairman twice, and also Norwich Strangers Club and Probus.

Among Peter’s interests was flying, including an unforgettable flight on Concorde, organised by his wife Eileen, to celebrate his 50th birthday. He also enjoyed motorsports and regularly picked up trophies after driving his Mini Cooper around the back lanes of Buckinghamshire.

A very caring, warm, humorous and popular man, he will be sadly missed by us, his wife Eileen, son Graham, daughter Jo and all his friends.

May he rest in peace

Secretary
