Rugby Webb EllisRT & 41 Club and Ledbury RT

It is with great regret that Rugby Webb Ellis 41 Club announces the passing of Roger Charles Johnson on 25th April 2020.

Roger was fun, happy, caring, kind family man who fought his illness with fortitude and dignity with the support from a tight family unit of wife Sue, children Mel, Olly & Em , partnersandgrandchildren.

He started Table life with Gloucester for a short time before moving to Ledbury where he spent many happy years including being their Chairman in 1984/85.

He was well known in Ledbury being a natural “networker” and committed Tabler which included many Dinners escorting local raconteur, Trevor Bethall, with other members to many Table/Area/Rugby Club functions.

On moving to Rugby in the early ninetiesto manage the Daventry & Rugby branches fortheHeart of England Building Society, he joined Rugby Webb Ellis 1176 immediately becoming a very active member, particularly with the Programme Committee.

Roger was Chairman of Rugby Webb Ellis 41 Club in 2003/04 and was a stalwart of the Club particularly organising many innovative meetings with Tony Mrowicki

In 2003 Roger, Bob Lucas & Elliott McGlone organised 41’s first “Middle Tiddle” in Montreuil-sur-Mer staying in a hotel owned by the Mayor of Montreul who welcomed us with Roger giving a fine acceptance speech in his best French.

He loved cricket and was a proud member of the MCC.

Roger will be sorely missed by all who knew him

The family are planning a “Celebration of Life” Memorial Service once the Covid 19 restrictions are lifted.
