Jack Hendry - Inverurie & District 41 Club

INVERURIE & DISTRICT 41 CLUB

JACK HENDRY.Born 13th July 1925 – Died 17th April 2020

Incredibly sad to report the death of Jack Hendry at the age of 94. Jack was preceded by his wife Jessie in 2002 and leaves behind daughters Ruth & Jacqueline, son David, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jack was a retired partner in local plumbing firm J D Hendry & Son, Inverurie, which son David runs today.

Jack was well known in the plumbing trade and was President of the Aberdeen & District Master Plumbers Association in 1985-87. Jack’s son, David Hendry, also held this position in 2000-2002.

In his early days he was a goalkeeper for Port Thistle FC, Inverurie North Street FC and Inverurie Loco’s Works FC. He was a member of Inverurie Golf Club and a brother curler for Inverurie Rotary and Meldrum & Daviot Curling Club. Jack was still the kitman for Colony Park Juniors FC before his passing.

Jack was a founder member of Inverurie & District Round Table in 1962, a founder member of Inverurie & District 41 Club in 1976 and the first 41 Club Chairman from 1976 to 1978. He joined Inverurie Rotary in 1988, Garioch Probus Club in 2003 and liked nothing better than reciting Rabbie Burns at many Burns nights or spikin Doric at the Doric Society or Rotary Glee Club.

Jack was also involved with the Inverurie Men’s Shed, Inverurie West High Street Church and founding committee member of the Garioch Heritage Society in Inverurie. At the time of his death he was acting Chairman and Honorary President of the Garioch Heritage Society and was instrumental, with others, to getting the Society to where it is today.

It’s easy to understand why Jack was known by so many as the encyclopaedia of Inverurie, or indeed “Mr Inverurie”, as he was involved in so many committees and Clubs in his lifetime. He was an Ambassador for the good of Inverurie, kind, jovial, a true character who was hugely respected by all who were lucky enough to know him. Rest in Peace.
