Euan "Sandy" Macfadyen - Sidmouth 41 Club

Euan “Sandy” Macfadyen--Sidmouth 41 Club

It is with much sadness that Sidmouth 41 Club has to report the passing of Sandy Macfadyen on 19th February 2020 at the age of 82. Sandy had been a member of Sidmouth 41 Club for over 40 years, having joined as soon as he left Sidmouth Round Table. He was Chairman from April 2001 to 2003 and regularly attended our monthly meetings despite a deterioration in his health over the last couple of years.

Sandy, a graduate of Queen’s College Cambridge, lived at his farm in Weston, a couple of miles outside Sidmouth. The farm is now managed by his daughter Emma and her husband. He was an extremely accomplished artist who specialised in watercolour landscapes and seascapes and he exhibited his work locally in Sidmouth

Sandy has always been active in the community and was also a member of the Sidmouth Rotary Club. He was a keen environmentalist who was responsible for the planting of many hundreds of trees in the Sidmouth area. He will also be fondly remembered in Sidmouth 41 Club as the organiser of our annual mackerel fishing trip each August.

Members will have to wait a while to pay our final respects to Sandy, as his Thanksgiving and Memorial service on 30th March 2020 was postponed due to Covid-19.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with his daughters Emma and Mary and their families at this time.
