National Secretary - Bernard Elwen

I took over as National Secretary in April 2020, at the point when we should all have been enjoying ourselves at the AGM and Conference in Cardiff. Like everyone else, I am looking forward to restrictions being lifted and being able once again to enjoy real (as opposed to virtual) fellowship with our clubs and members.

The Secretary’s job is a wide-ranging one, taking in AGM organisation, National Board and Council meetings, interpretation of 41 Club rules and standing orders, oversight of our Marchesi House administration contract, along with all the queries that don’t obviously sit with anyone else. I’m retired from full-time work, which helps, although I keep myself occupied as a Green Badge Tour Guide in St Albans, as well as a trustee of two MS charities.

In 41 Club, we are looking forward to the introduction of CAS2, which will offer a much more streamlined administration function for all clubs and Marchesi House staff. Hopefully, this will make it much easier for clubs to keep all their details up-to-date, and lessen the number of queries coming to both the Secretary and to Marchesi House. Another thing I intend to look at when CAS2 is introduced is archiving and document storage, so that all clubs and members can access what they need quickly and easily.
