Members of Abingdon & District 41 Club visited the Bodleian Library in Oxford for a tour. The library is the main research library of the University and is one of the oldest libraries in Europe with over 13million printed items. After the visit the guys retired to the Kings Arms for refreshment.
Eight players competed in this year’s snooker evening, held on Tuesday the 7th of February at the Conservative club as usual. As it was a doubles competition the numbers neatly allowed for four teams.
The competition was intense and the teams who made it through to the final were Adrian Palfreyman and Dennis Charlton playing Chris Allen and guest Dave England.
Adrian and Dennis, having built up a commanding lead saw this diminish owing to some “own goals”, but ultimately won the day after some excellent shots especially from Dennis, who at the age of 99 is as capable as ever and showed razor sharp focus.
Our picture shows Chairman Keith presenting the shield to the victorious team. The evening was again excellently organised by our Sports Officer Chris.
A bumper bundle of an evening took place at the January meeting of the club.
Starting with Colin Webster returning from the south west to address the haggis. it was followed by the Chairman of Reading Valley 41Club - Paul Mascal - giving a talk on his exploits in the Clipper World Race in 2017.
See pictures below:
Members and their partners attended Chairman Keith's garden for pre-Christmas drinks.
Huddled around a small wood burning fire pit - greetings were exchanged and a buffet was consumed. A good time was had by all!

Members of Abingdon 41 Club, accompanied by National President Jim Conway, took part in an exercise clearing perishable foods from the Ocado Distribution Centre at Bicester.
Left to right, Jim Conway 41 Club National President, Peter Davis, Keith Butler, Martin Green, Maria Green, Ruth Curry (Ocado & Past NALC President).
5 car loads of food was taken to the Abingdon Fridge at Hadland Road, and the Cherwell Collective at Kidlington. The three pallets of food will be distribute amongst the needy over Christmas. Thanks to Keith Butler, Peter Flynn, Andrew Hoare, Joihn Goss, Peter Davis, Nigel Morgan, Martin & Maria Green and Pat Minns whio helped. The two food banks were amazed at the quality and value of the food which included turkeys priced at nearly £100. The result ensured that Ocado had zero waste in their warehouse this year and those in need were helped.
