VE Day Celebrations 2020


Over the last few months President Peter Good has worked behind the scenes with SSAFA to deliver a major programme in partnership for VE Day, whilst original plans have been affected we have managed to create an online programme for next week with the help of a great team.

Peter wants to ensue our members have the chance in sharing the countries celebrations for VE Day and encourages every to be safe and have a party at home.

Below a national programme has been created to bring people together.

Thursday April 30th 7pm

President Peter Good will share via Facebook a live update to the members, discussing the up and coming plans for VE Day for all members highlighting the opportunities for all to participate safe from their homes.

Saturday May 2nd

Launch of the 41 Club Facebook Page “41ClubRemembers” – this page will be dedicated for the celebrations of the VE Day 75th Celebrations; we are encouraging all members to share pictures, video accounts and family stories of those who served not only in the second world war at home and abroad, but also those who have served throughout our recent history up to current times.

Thursday 7th May 6.00pm until 7.30pm

Meet the President – a special edition for those who have served our nation past and present. National President Peter will encourage a sharing of stories with a co-host and those who have shared their stories.

VE Day May 8th – All Day Celebrations

We are encouraging all members to stay at home and have a safe party, put the bunting up, bake some cakes, play music but most of all remember those who paved the way for our lives today. This will be a celebration of communities coming together for VE Day - Victory in Europe. Simply put, come together at a difficult time in our nation’s history.

This will be a chance to meet again, using the technology of today. Why not plan Zoom parties and on-line watch parties, and share them within the Facebook group.
Throughout the day, the BBC will have a full TV agenda that will add to the spirit of the day.
Key scheduling moments are.

11.00am – Observe a two minutes silence

2.30pm – A special address by 41 Club President Peter Good and RTBI President Matt Eaton

3:00pm – A Toast to the Nation live by the Prime Minister BBC1

4pm - 6pm– The 41 Club Great British Cook Off Party Live via Facebook Group

8:00pm – The People Party BBC1

9:00pm – The Queens Speech to the Nation

9.10pm – Sing along to “We’ll Meet Again” by Dame Vera Lynn and Catherine Jenkins on BBC1 - share live your voices via Facebook

Key Requirements for the day;
  • Music, BBC TV/Radio, your iPad/phone for sharing pictures and videos on the day.
  • Bunting around the house/garden.
  • Food and drink in the traditional British Tea Party Style (maybe 41 Club Gin for a true cocktail on the day?).
  • Simply put, let’s share this amazing day together online.
